Atlantic Pacific International Rescue Boat Project is an organisation providing support for situations that need lifeboats.
We have now developed a multipronged project to continue our work in the ongoing refugee situation:
- A second rescue boat is being built to be sent to Lesbos in March. We plan on providing a mobile control and communications unit to help co-ordinate the rescue strategy in the region.
- Beyond the boat project, we are working to provide medical assistance in the form of bringing medics and medical supplies amongst others to Imece Inisiyatifi Çeşme, a local Turkish initiative that is struggling to provide immediate care to the refugees arriving in Çeşme. The initiative is working around the clock without any external support and offering critical assistance to the children, women and men who are arriving in this area.
- We are also planning to provide other urgent assistance and coordination of volunteers as needed to areas we have local contacts, where the need is urgent and where there is an absence of NGOs and state actors to assist refugees.
We request a certain amount of flexibility with the dispersion of funds given the extreme fluid situation on the ground and to deal with the reality that needs are emerging based on any given situation. That s why the fundraiser shows a high target: We want to stay flexible and not have the platform expire, but for use mid and long term for later projects of Atlantic Pacific and hopefully the UWC community.
We will continue to update this platform with details about how the funding is being used. Please follow our work and update on UWC x Refugees on Facebook and Atlantic Pacific International Rescue Boat Project
We need your support and your encouragement to ensure we can provide ongoing support for the current rescue boat project and for our Turkish initiative and beyond.
Together, we can make a difference.
Who is who – description of Atlantic Pacific:
Atlantic Pacific International Rescue Boat Project is an organisation, initiated by Robin Jenkins and established at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London and United World College of the Atlantic in South Wales, that provides lifeboats, lifeboat stations, co-ordination and training for situations where a lifeboat is needed. It is currently involved in setting up a lifeboat station in the Tsunami devastated region of Tohoku in north east Japan and will ship a lifeboat out to the station in June.
In light of the ongoing refugee crisis, the Project has recently supported our fundraising for Red Mist LB 1 and has held a three-week training course for a local Greek lifeguard team in Lesbos.
