All in the bed listening to a story

I am Anthony Buirchell, Australian author,with a passion to write Children’s Picture Books. I need you to assist me to make my vision a reality. You can do this for very little but your rewards will be substantial.

I have been keenly interested in writing children’s books that entertain and educate since I first attended high school at Kojonup. As a country boy I had the world of my little country town as my oyster, walking and riding all over the district, finding and observing new and exciting animals and plants. I wanted to share my experiences with others but had no means at that young age.

At home my brothers and sisters had no books and it wasn’t until second year high school that I discovered the town library and books.What a treasure trove.

I decided I wanted to write like the great authors of my childhood but my teachers had other thoughts and my creative side was unfortunately suppressed. As I matured I became a teacher and found I had a clever imagination and loved to sprout silly, nonsensical rhymes. My students loved this and encouraged me but the written words stayed hidden.

In 2013 I retired after 45 years in education. With the encouragement of my partner, Deb Johnson, I began to do research and to write. She encourages me even giggling at my rhymes and then admiring my clever efforts. So my writing career that had been dormant for over 50 years sprang to life.

I hope that the beneficiaries of my books are the children who get to read them or have them read out loud by parents and grandparents. I hope their creative selves burst forth and aren’t made to wait 50 years like mine.

The written word has come to life and colour after finding an illustrator, Nikki Ball. She has added so much more to the story.

To fulfil the dream of producing these books and to employ Nikki as a quality illustrator I need your belief in reading as the most important of all educational skills to be taught to children from the youngest age.
