We are New York Shakespeare Exchange
With last year’s successful Kickstarter campaign we brought you a bloody good Titus Andronicus that the New York Times called “blessedly stylized” and “directed with self-assurance and an ardent sense of character.”
We’re back for our SIXTH season, with an original adaptation of Hamlet that reflects the universality of Shakespeare’s greatest play while crossing boundaries of language, age, gender, culture and race, with multiple actors playing the lead role.
Become a backer and you can join us in New York City for the opening performance at the Flamboyan Theater on Sunday, March 20, following a 4 p.m. matinee, or guarantee your premium seats for our run, which ends April 10, 2016.
Our New Second Stage Production
Up for something new? We have commissioned a new adaptation of The Rape of Lucrece, one of Shakespeare’s least exposed works, in which resident playwright Kevin Brewer converts an epic poem into a stage production. Join us in December 2015 for four evenings of developmental workshops in which we share the first version of the play. We will bring our “second stage” production to you in the fall.
That’s Not All…
This is your annual chance to support a theater company that brings theater to new audiences in exciting new ways.
- We’re wrapping up The Sonnet Project and moving it into classrooms
- NYSX has been commissioned to be the featured guests at the Welcome Ceremonies for theFirst Folio Texas stop at Texas A&M in March. We will be hosting a ShakeBEER, presenting an evening of Sonnet Project films at a local bar, and teaching both local actors and at the university.
- We’re getting a special commendation for a body of work that represents the ideals of theShakespeare Birth Trust, based in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England.
- We’re the only North American partners with The Globe Theater in London, who have included our films from The Sonnet Project on their website.
